In todays society, it is harder and harder to gain someone's attention. With all of the distractions and options in the world, it may be hard to persuade consumers to take a look at your product or organization. I researched a few social media campaigns that tackled this challenge, and came out victorious, even some winning social media awards like Shortys . I found a couple key factors that made these campaigns so successful.

The first factor that I found in many of these campaigns is that they knew who there audience was, and they targeted their campaign to them. This is what makes a campaign the most successful; when the organization has a specific audience they are trying to relate to, it is crucial to target that audience for the campaign. For example, there was a campaign ran by Ecotools that targeted women for their new line of eco-friendly beauty products. They strategically planned their release of this campaign to line up with International Women's Day in the United States. They started a movement of #MyTrueBeauty that got over 17 Million impressions in as little as 24 hours. Because Ecotools knew their audience, they were able to successfully launch their new products, all while celebrating women and their eco-friendly beauty line.

The second factor that I found in some of the more recent social media campaigns, was that they addressed current issues in todays society. Specifically looking at last year, 2020. With the election and current pandemic, there is a lot that can be said in these campaigns. HBOMax teamed up with Rock The Vote to create a campaign that targeted why people should vote in the upcoming election.

The campaign shows people putting on different face masks that had a reasoning written on them as to why they should vote. While this is handling the current election at its time, it is also displaying the precautions the world has had to take by including face masks. Not only does this campaign call for people to vote in a fair-minded way, but they are also showing something that everyone can relate to today, which is wearing a face covering for the precautions but in place by the CDC for the current COVID-19 pandemic. This campaign aided in the fact that there was the highest turn out in voters in the United States in a century, with nearly every state reaching record breaking high votes.

When these factors work together, we are able to see that they do in fact make a difference in these campaigns. It is very important to strategically plan social media campaigns in order for them to be successful; whether that be targeting your audience, or keeping up with the current events happening in today’s society.
